How would you describe your work?
I would best describe my work as being quite quirky, bold, and somewhat cute at times. Sorry but that’s the best I can do.
What motivates you in your work?
Good music, cups of tea and creative people. Oooh and cheese on toast!
Who would you say is a contemporary artist you admire?
Umm can I change “Contemporary to Lowbrow or street art?” Yes, why thank you. Joe Ledbetter (this guys paintings are so perfect they look like they’ve been created in illustrator, flawless), Derek Hess (his sketchy style is memorizing), and Rob Zombie (when I was a kid I would be listening to White Zombie and flicking through the album sleeves and just being amazed at his artwork, the colours just screamed at me!!).
What are you working on right now?
Right now outside of my 9 to 5 job pretending to be a graphic designer, I’m working on a few projects. One project I’m working on is a website for Manon Carpenter, a Junior World Cup Downhill mountain biker. Another project is called “Fitness4shaw” a fitness, health and nutrition company who asked me to design all the branding for the company. I’m also working on a few tattoo designs for people, which is great because I get to get the old 2B out and get messy in my sketchbook. I’ve just finished a vector montage for a charity auction and I’ve just finished some album artwork for a Swansea based band called “White Dice”.
Do you have any advice for other graphic artists?
I’m a bit rubbish at giving out advice but, hey ho here goes. In the words of Ferris Bueller “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it”.
Open your eyes to the world around you, take in your surroundings and open up to new and different ideas, and never give up. Also never throw away old ideas, keep them backed up, because one day you’ll find a use for them. And the most important piece of advice for any design/artist is NEVER EVER plagarise. By all means get inspired by other artists/designers; just don’t copy their work.
