Q & A with Goodfibres artist Adam Smith

What attracted you to Goodfibres?
When the folks at Goodfibres approached me to work with them I was struck by the positivity.  I like that the brand stands for something, rather than being strictly about the dollar.  Plus I like the way you Brits spell "colour".

How did you get involved with what you're doing now?
It's actually been a winding road.  I graduated from college with a degree in Metals and Jewelry.  I did the craft show thing for a few years and got burnt out on that.  Eventually I decided I would much rather be working two-dimensionally so I switched.

What are your inspirations?
Philadelphia, my wife, my family, my friends, hard-working people, Jesus, skateboarding, tattoos, hand-painted signs, creative hip hop, urban fashion, country fashion. A lot of different things I guess.

What is your favourite medium to work with and why?
Lately I've been really into watercolors because of the organic, sometimes serendipitous, results.

What are the newest projects you're working on?
I've been trying to do more freelance design and illustration.  I'm working with a record label here in Philly on a T-shirt.  I’m also doing some branding design for another record label out of Texas.  I did a skate deck for a shop in Columbia, South Carolina that will be coming out soon.  I'm really excited about that one, because growing up skateboarding, it's always been a dream to design a deck.

How would you describe your work?
That's a tough one.  I don't think I really know my work well enough yet to answer accurately. I’ll Figure it out soon.
